A's target sweep of Giants

Baseball Betting Lines

05/20/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Oakland Athletics will try to complete the sweep when they close out their three-game series against the San Francisco Giants this afternoon from McAfee Coliseum.

Taking the mound for Oakland will be southpaw Joe Kennedy. Kennedy has been dynamite all year for the A's, posting just a 2.53 ERA. However, all the lefty has to show for his efforts is a meager 1-2 record. In six of his eight starts this season Kennedy has allowed no more than one run.

The last time the 27-year-old toed the rubber was this past Tuesday when the A's posted a 5-4 win over Kansas City. Kennedy tossed an impressive 7 2/3 innings in that one, allowing just one run on six hits. However, despite the strong performance Kennedy did not factor in the decision.

Kennedy pitched a couple seasons for the Colorado Rockies, so he is familiar with the Giants. In eight matchups against San Francisco Kennedy is 4-2, but has a lackluster 5.36 ERA.

Matt Morris will take the hill this afternoon looking to get the Giants back in the win column. Morris has been the most stable arm in the Giants staff thus far and heads into this game with an impressive 4-1 record along with a healthy 3.27 ERA.

The last time Morris toed the rubber, the 32-year-old received a no-decision against the Houston Astros, as he surrendered just three runs on six hits in six innings of duty.

This will be just the second-ever start for Morris against the A's. The right- hander surrendered four runs on six hits over seven innings to beat them last season.

On Saturday, Jack Cust hit a three-run home run and Dan Haren tossed seven strong innings as Oakland edged San Francisco, 4-2.

Haren (4-2) retired 15 straight batters at one point and gave up just three hits and two runs with six strikeouts and two walks in the win.

Alan Embree set the side down in order in the ninth -- including Barry Bonds to lead off the inning -- for his first save since July 6, 2005.

Bengie Molina hit a two-run home run for the Giants, who have lost four of five.

Matt Cain (2-4) was tagged for six hits and three runs in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out nine and walked four.

Bonds went homerless for his ninth straight game, finishing 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. The slugger remains 10 home runs shy of tying Hank Aaron's all-time record.

San Francisco center fielder Randy Winn went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.

The A's boast a 105-73 overall record against the NL, which trails only the Yankees for the best winning percentage in interleague play. San Francisco is 86-77 all-time versus the AL.
