Denver, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rockies inked pitcher Russ Ortiz to a minor league contract on Sunday after he was released by the New York Yankees. Ortiz, 35, pitched briefly in the Yankees' minor league system after being cut by Houston earlier in the season. He was 3-6 for the Astros in 23 games -- 13 starts -- with a 5.57 earned run average. Boston, MA (Sports Network) - New York Yankees left fielder Johnny Damon left Friday's game against the Boston Red Sox in the middle of the first inning with a foot injury. Damon fouled an 0-1 pitch off his right foot in the top of the first but stayed in the game, though he would strike out. As the Yanks took the field in the bottom half, Eric Hinske replaced Damon in left. For the season, Damon is hitting .284 with 22 homers and 68 RBI.
